Photographic Associations

If you are a professional photographer, being a member of a reputable association can make a big difference to your credibility in the eyes of your potential clients. This can be seen as a professional recommendation or testimony to your abilities and status.

There are so many associations, and many will allow you to add letters after your name, which is always impressive, even if your clients don't know what they mean. So, here are links to the main associations that are respected and worth considering if you want to increase your status within the profession.

SWPP

The Fastest Growing Worldwide Association for Professional Photographers.

When there is such a choice of representative organisations out there you may ask yourself, why the SWPP?

To us the answer is very simple.  If you are a newcomer to the industry or considering a career change then we offer the most comprehensive range of educational seminars by inspirational speakers.

The profile of our membership contains many individuals who have enjoyed active careers in many of the traditional 'professions' and to whom 'professionalism' is second nature.

We are dedicated to providing quality training and mentoring to all that ask and want to progress in Professional Photography without prejudice or discrimination.

The SWPP & BPPA currently represents photographers who specialize in the following areas of expertise:

Freelance, Photojournalists, Weddings, Portraits, Children, Animal, Equestrian, Digital, Commercial, Fashion & Glamour,  Landscape,  Nature, Sport, Medical, Scientific, Press,  PR, Architectural, Industrial, Forensic, Natural History, Research, amongst others.

BIPP

The British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP) is the qualifying body for professional photographers in the UK.

We qualify, train and support photographers across all types of photography - from architectural to advertising photography.

If you need to find a professional, qualified photographer - perhaps your wedding photographer or someone to shoot your family portrait, use our free search tool - Find A Photographer.  It lists around 3500 photographers who have achieved their qualifications with the BIPP.  They will be qualified professionals, bound by a code of professional conduct.

If you're thinking of becoming a photographer or joining a photographic association, our programme of training courses and our mentoring scheme will help you develop your photographic career.  We will offer advice and practical help, along with discounts and benefits available to you as a member of our organisation.
